April 2013: RADIO SILENCE BROKEN!!

Hey everyone. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been on the air, actually since the holidays, right? Well, the main reason is that there wasn’t a hell of a lot going on. I’ve just been doing some relaxing, recording a few tracks here & there & such like that.

Now that there’s a few live shows to report, a movie about to premier, a couple others in the works, a few recordings & some X news, I’ll be back on the line.

It seemed that in 2011 my movie career was truly, finally over. Then my old buddy Allison Anders called for us (Cindy Wasserman, Kristin Mooney & me) to sing the voices for the Carter Family. Allison also helped me get the job playing A.P. Carter in the up coming Ring Of Fire. It premiers May 27th on Lifetime. Then at the end of last year I was fortunate enough to work on two other indy movies; Pleased to Meet Me (PtMM) and Electric Slide. No idea when they’ll be released, both will probably do the festival circuit. PtMM stars Aimee Mann, Joe Henry & Loundon Wainwright III. Check the link to see what it’s all about. It had a first showing at the WXPN music & film festival in Philly on 4/12/13; which was followed by a Q & A w/ David Dye (World Café), Archie Borders (dir) Loudon & me. People seemed to like the movie & even I thought it was pretty good.

Electric Slide features Jim Sturgess, Patricia Arquette, Isabel Lucas, Christopher Lambert, Will McCormack & Cloe Sevigny. I play an LAPD homicide detective named Bill Holiday & my partner (Will Mc Cormack) is Fred Mercury. pretty dang much fun, oh yeah.

And now for the music news:

I’ve got a July solo tour in the process of being booked. Here are the dates so far.
Sweetwater, Mill Valley July 26th
Far West Fest July 27th
The Centre for the Arts July 28th

The new JD San Francisco band will be Tom Heyman (Chuck Prophet, Penelope Houston) on pedal steel & guitar, Atom Ellis (Link Wray) on bass and Bill Shupp (Chuck Prophet, Penelope Houston) on drums. Of course Cindy Wasserman will be there w/ her thrush-like vocals & smiling face. come out see us & have a good time.

X has a few gigs booked as well:
Orange County Fair July 18th W/ the B52’s
LA Pershing Square Aug 17th

They also tell me that a tour w/ Blondie may happen in Sept. what a gas that will be!

Recording:

Look for a couple songs on The 78 Project
a Slim Dunlap benefit single on New West
and a civil war song on a compilation titled Divided and United

Alrighty then, I guess that’s it for now. I look forward to seeing many of you out there.
